What exactly does awesome mean?
Awesome is a catch-all term describing a person’s mental, physical, spiritual, and overall wellness. Awesomeness is unique to everyone. Being awesome is expressing yourself and finding genuine joy, fulfillment, and satisfaction while navigating life’s issues in a positive manner. Being awesome is being the best version of yourself.
Tips for Maximizing Your Awesome
- Keep an open mind. Be open to a new, better you. Who knows what awesomer you is into? There are so many factors that influence mental health, which means there are many solutions.
- Wellness is not a singular construct. Rather a combination of dozens or hundreds of smaller, manageable factors. A singular “cure” to “healing” from illness (or just improving mental health) does not exist. So trying multiple approaches and techniques is essential.
- It is awesome and encouraged to look like an idiot sometimes. If you are breaking out of the stale mold of outdated you, sometimes you will look like an idiot. If you aren’t falling, you aren’t trying. Every winner has lost, a lot. Embrace looking silly, own it. Here I am being super “awesome” in the Telluride back-country. Matty is filming in blue. I the orange and yellow blob toppling down the mountain sans skis. NAILED IT!
- Life is full of choices. More right decisions means likely more happiness and growth. Rocket science, I know.
- Be you, but the better version of you. Ditch the old version for the upgraded awesomer edition. You are not total tear-down, just in need of a remodel, keep the good, drop the negative!
Self care is NOT selfish. You can better take care of those around you when you are at your best. So put your oxygen mask on first.

Take 3 Leaps on your Path to AWESOME!
Leap 1: Measure your current awesome.
- Feel Awesomer Mood Meter (FAMM). A brief mood meter assessing overall current mental wellness.
- Next Right Decision (NRD) A tool to measure multiple health decisions for a day.
- Start a Journal (Paper, electronic, or video)
- Record your scores from the FAMM and NRD
- Write/Record one sentence (or more) about how you feel right now.
Leap 2: Educate yourself, about yourself.
Understanding what makes you as an individual happy is essential to beginning your journey towards it. Gaining perspective on strengths, limitations, weaknesses, supports, and other aspects of self is paramount.
- Self Awareness
- Positive Psychology
- The connection between mood and decisions
The physical and mental body are directly connected. Seems basic, and can be. Feel Awesomer is designed to help connect these two often compartmentalized domains, decisions and feelings.
Leap 3: Build your awesomer tool box.
Begin your self-guided journey to fulfillment by diving into any positive activities that “tickle your fancy”, or just slightly intrigues you. Keep a “favorites” list of the awesome tools in your journal! These may be activities, mindsets, mantras, or other decisions that make you feel better. Revisit this list when you are struggling and looking for more.
